Since 1964, the Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation (GSBDC), a Certified Development Company, has provided non-conventional loans to for-profit small businesses throughout upstate New York. Because our mission of creating jobs and wealth within our region differs from that of traditional lending sources, such as banks, we can offer long-term loans with fixed interest rates and low down payments.

Our loans enable new businesses to establish themselves; existing businesses to expand and prosper in our region; and businesses from outside our region to relocate here. Loans come from a range of programs, including the Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loan program. We provide financing for fixed asset projects and working capital, and have helped fund projects ranging in size from $30,000 to over $14 million. The majority of our clients are manufacturers, but our client list includes software developers, professional services, hospitality, and retail firms.

Different loan programs meet different needs, and have different requirements. We work closely and consultatively with our clients to explore their needs and identify the funding sources that will work best for them, and also work in close partnership with the area’s banking, accounting, legal, and business development professionals.

Bob Ellis
Executive Director

Bob Ellis joined the Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation (GSBDC) in April of 2019 as its Executive Director. Bob is responsible for the strategic leadership for the achievement of GSBDC’s mission. He oversees and manages the day to day operations and reports to the organization’s Board of Trustees. He also assists the Client Manager in the loan and servicing processes.

Bob comes to GSBDC with over 30 years’ experience in banking and commercial lending and has an extensive managerial background. He also currently acts as the President and a Board member for the Empire Chapter of the Risk Management Association. 

Kathy Campbell
Client Manager

Kathy Campbell joined the Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation (GSBDC) as Client Manager in October 2007. She assists with submissions of new financing requests, as well as meeting the servicing requirements of the existing loan portfolio. Additionally, she assists with marketing and outreach efforts to create further awareness and visibility of the programs offered by the GSBDC.

Kathy came to GSBDC with 25 years of experience in banking, with a focus on delivery of products and services to the small business sector.
